In Three Words…

Grand, scenic, vibrant

Location of the Four Seasons Resort Maui

The Four Seasons Resort Maui is located right on the southernmost point of Wailea Beach on the island’s sunny South Shore. The resort itself is nestled within 15 acres of lush gardens in the rather swanky tourist town of Wailea. It’s walking distance to many lovely bars and restaurants nearby, and just a short drive to the more lively town of Kihei.

From the Kahului Airport, it is about a 25 minute drive in total door-to-door travel time, with private helicopter and limousine services also available.

Amenities at the Four Seasons Resort Maui

Bars & Restaurants

There are three main on-site restaurants at the Four Seasons Maui, all of which are award winning.

Ferraro’s was my favourite during my time in Maui, and we found ourselves returning back time and time again. It recently underwent a total renovation to update both the physical space and the menu in early 2024. I wholeheartedly recommend their delicious signature dish of Creste al Nero di Seppia, which is squid ink pasta made with super fresh lobster caught in nearby Kona

Just across the way, Duo and Spago. There’s also the Lobby Lounge and Boardwalk Cafe, both of which I loved – the cafe in particular had a delicious ube flavoured latte that I could not get enough of in the mornings!

Spa & Fitness

The Four Seasons Resort Maui has seemingly endless ways to stay fit during your stay – the most obvious being their open air fitness centre overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The spa is adjacent to the health centre, and features the Next|Health Longevity Protocol pioneered by Dr. Darshan Shah exclusive to the resort.

Additionally, the resort also has two hard tennis courts and three pools located on-site, as well as special privileges at three nearby golf courses in Wailea.

In addition to the physical facilities, the Four Seasons Maui also offers an daily health conscious programming that includes activities like yoga on the beach, neighbourhood runs, and stand up paddle boarding in the ocean. If that’s not enough, you can also hire equipment and guides for scuba diving, snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, and outrigger canoeing.

Beach & Pool

The Four Seasons Maui features not one, not two, but three pools! The best, in my opinion, is the main fountain pool at the ground level. The keiki pool is adjacent to this one, and the last is an infinity pool on the upper level with a swim up bar.

Each of the pools features complimentary reef-friendly sunscreen and little refreshments, as well as the standard towel service. Cabanas and loungers are also available for use throughout the property near each of the pools, and can be booked in advance. Compared to the other resorts in the area, the cabanas here are much more spacious and private, and in most cases come with extremely scenic ocean views.

Although Wailea Beach is open to the public, the little stretch of sand in front of the property feels extremely private due to its location at the southernmost end that is sheltered by a small cove. The beach also has mineral sunscreen, as well as a number of complimentary loungers and boogie boards for guest use.

Cultural Activities

Even if you never left the resort grounds, you would still manage to get a true taste of the local culture thanks to the Four Seasons Maui’s extensive cultural programming. The resort has daily complimentary cultural workshops, like hula dancing classes and lei making workshops.

The resort grounds also hosts a series of revolving events open to the community, such as weekly exhibitions by local artists and pop-up artisan markets. There are also nightly hula performances in the Lobby Lounge in the early evenings, as well as a torch lighting performance every night at sunset.

The Four Seasons Maui also has special relationships with local creators that you can book through the concierge team that include unique experiences like a sunrise walk with a local photographer, poke tasting with the in-house culinary team, a poi pounding workshop, and a coral reef class with underwater experts.

To top it all off, the Four Seasons Maui is also home to Lucy – a rescued parrot who now calls the resort home, and is cared for by the resident aviarist, Uncle Bruno.

Concierge

The concierge team here is excellent, with five of the twenty eight team members having earned the coveted Les Clefs d’Or. Despite the sprawling size of the resort and sheer number of guests, the team manages to make every person feel uniquely catered to – which is quite the accomplishment if you ask me.

That being said, I wouldn’t rely on the rest of the staff for any niche or off-the-beaten path suggestions. In one instance, when asked the water sports station about the best snorkeling spots to see a good variety of fish on the island, we were met with the simple response of “everywhere”.

Sustainability at Four Seasons Resort Maui

The resort outwardly strives towards a more sustainable future, and has multiple initiatives in place to work towards that.

It features saltwater pools that do not contribute to chemical runoff, as well as complimentary stations with reef-safe sunscreen from Project Reef that is free from oxybenzone and octinoxate. The resort currently has extensive energy conservation and water recycling programs in place

The resort features native plants throughout their extensive gardens, and is participating in a pilot program using Soil Thrive Solutions for the landscaping with zero-added chemicals. All of the restaurants at the Four Seasons Resort Maui also feature locally grown produce when possible, and are certified as Ocean Friendly Restaurants by the Surfrider Foundation.

There are electric vehicle charging stations available in the parking structure, as well as a fleet of electric bicycles available for guest use. Guests are provided with reusable aluminum water bottles upon arrival, with plenty of refill stations located throughout the property.

Finally, the hotel also encourages its guests to contribute towards the sustainability of the island by offering incentives and discounts for participating in volunteer activities through the Malama Hawaii program.

Overall

The Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea is splurge-worthy slice of paradise. It’s the perfect place for honeymooners, young families, and just a plain old getaway.
