Staying at Moorea Beach Lodge

Located on the island’s sunset coast, Moorea Beach Lodge is a boutique hotel that feels a lot like an invitation to come stay at the guest house of a good friend.

The first thing you’ll notice when you walk in is the ancient banyan tree, standing at least two stories tall with its long tendrils gently swaying in the breeze. Each of the thirteen individually designed bungalows are tucked amongst the rest of the sprawling gardens, filled with fragrant hibiscus and frangipani trees.

Beyond the verdant landscapes are turquoise waters framed by your own private beach. There are loungers for sunbathing and kayaks that beckon for adventures in the lagoon, as well as a little library in case you forgot your own book. In short, everything you could need in paradise.

Amenities at Moorea Beach Lodge

Daily Breakfast

Each morning at Moorea Beach Lodge starts with a delicious breakfast with freshly baked bread and croissants, locally made jams, fresh fruit juice, hot tea and coffee, and your choice of eggs prepared scrambled, fried, or as an omelette with cheese and bacon.

Sports Equipment

Moorea Beach Lodge has five kayaks available for complimentary guest use, along with paddles and safety vests. While I’ve never been much of a kayaker in the past, the easy access meant that an early morning paddle quickly became a part of my daily routine.

The calm waters in the early morning were perfect for spotting the abundant marine life living in the ‘front yard’. In addition to the schools of vibrant fish, we also saw rays, reef sharks, and sea turtles every single day we went out.

Transportation

Moorea Beach Lodge has a fleet of non-electric bicycles that are free for guest use outside the main office that are perfect for exploring the nearby town or getting a quick workout in.

If you need to go further that a bicycle will take you, Moorea Beach Lodge very conveniently has a small vehicle rental fleet on-site. They have a number of gas powered scooters available for rent at affordable prices, as well as brand new cars like my beloved Fiat 500.

Fare Lounge

Possibly our favourite amenity was the Fare Lounge, which includes a sprawling indoor-outdoor living area and a full commercial kitchen that is shared between the bungalow guests.

Despite being a shared space, there were enough private nooks that it never felt crowded. On one lazy afternoon, we invited our friends over for a big Sunday brunch and were so grateful for all the homey amenities.

Private Beach

Perhaps the greatest draw for many to Moorea Beach Lodge will be its direct access to a small, private beach. This little corner of the island is renowned for having some of the best coral and sea life, and the lagoon often has little rays and black tipped reef sharks.

The Rooms at Moorea Beach Lodge

There are just thirteen rooms at Moorea Beach Lodge, all of which are scattered throughout verdant gardens and just a stone’s throw from the water’s edge. The garden rooms, located closer to the entrance of the property, do get a fair amount of road noise. If you are someone that is a light sleeper, it would be worth the upgrade to the next room class.

During our time here we stayed in Bungalow No. 1, also known as the Honeymoon Suite. The room is a detached over-water style bungalow with its own private deck overlooking the lagoon.

Despite being rather compact, the rooms are all very thoughtfully designed, and come with just about everything you’d need – including beach towels, toiletries, a safe, and a little desk.

Each evening, we would leave the windows cracked and fall asleep to the sounds of distant waves crashing over the lagoon’s coral reef.

Sustainability at Moorea Beach Lodge

From its construction to its daily operations, Moorea Beach Lodge has adopted several environmentally friendly initiatives.

The decor elements throughout the hotel are all locally sourced, and building elements include traditionally sustainable methods such as thatched roofs.

Breakfast features locally sourced eggs and fruits, as well as breads baked fresh that morning. Linens here are only refreshed per request, and guests are encouraged to reduce their use of air conditioning and limit water use when they can.

Overall

My stay at Moorea Beach Lodge was a total dream. It has the most perfect location on the island – close to everything but still in its own secluded little world. The service here is impeccable – friendly and helpful, but never intrusive. If you’re planning a trip to the island, this would be my top pick!
