Every town in Sonoma has its own unique charm, but there’s something special about the little Healdsburg that has me falling in love every time. So, when my good friends announced their weekend visit to town, I immediately suggested staying there. Luckily, their travel club had a last-minute opening at The Piccolo, an incredible retreat located just minutes away from the vibrant Healdsburg Square.
The moment I stepped into Inspirato Piccolo, I was captivated by its irresistible allure. The attention to detail and refined luxury of the interiors created a haven designed for pure relaxation and bliss.
Beyond the retreat’s borders, the natural beauty of Healdsburg unfolded before our eyes. Expansive vineyards stretched as far as the eye could see, offering opportunities for delightful exploration and unforgettable moments. We immersed ourselves in acclaimed wineries and indulged in the region’s farm-to-table culinary delights.
What truly set Inspirato Piccolo apart was its exceptional personalized service. The dedicated staff went above and beyond to curate extraordinary experiences, arranging exclusive vineyard tours and organizing private tastings.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Piccolo Property
When Did The Piccolo Open?
After opening with fresh renovations in early 2022, The Piccolo became one of the newest additions to Inspirato’s portfolio.
Is The Piccolo Part of A Hotel Group?
Kind of – this property is owned independently but managed as part of a larger network run by a luxury travel club called Inspirato.
Is The Property Pet Friendly?
Unfortunately, no pets are allowed at this particular property.
Is The Piccolo Family Friendly?
Yes, and this would be a great accommodation option for families with older children. The pool in the back yard is accessible without barrier, however, so it might not be the best choice for smaller children.
Is The Property Accessible?
The interior of The Piccolo is spacious with wide doorways and has two ground floor bedrooms. There are several steps from the exterior and uneven outdoor terrain that would make getting in and out of the house challenging for someone with mobility difficulties, though.
In Three Words…
luxurious, intimate, scenic.
Location of The Piccolo
The Piccolo is located in Healdsburg, the northernmost town of Sonoma County. From San Francisco, it’s about a ninety minute drive if you avoid any rush hour traffic.
The location is absolutely perfect for a relaxing getaway in wine country. Healdsburg Plaza is just a little more than two miles away, making it a quick drive or even walkable. It’s arguably the cutest town in Sonoma, and is abundant in shopping, tasting rooms, and has a wide range of high quality dining options.
Within a thirty minute drive, you’ll be able to reach dozens of wineries in both Sonoma and Northern Napa. Hiking through redwoods, floating down the Russian River, and horse back riding through back country trails are all activities that are also very near. If you wanted, you could even take a day trip to Mendocino’s Alexander Valley within an hour’s drive.
Amenities at The Piccolo
Creature Comforts
Perhaps the best part about staying at The Piccolo is that it’s equipped with everything you might need. The kitchen is stocked with basic spices, tools, knives, boards, kettles, cutlery, and serving ware. You name it, they’ve got it.
We collected produce from farm stands and markets throughout the week, and had a lovely family-style dinner all together at home.
The Piccolo also has a Sonos sound system, Le Labo soaps, and Starbucks coffee.
Outdoor Living Areas
We all agreed during our stay that the collective outdoor living areas are the best part of the property. The Piccolo has a heated pool and hot tub, which was perfect for taking a dip in the misty mornings and cool nights.
Beyond that, there were plenty of loungers and adirondacks tucked around the pool and down into the rolling hills, as well as a nice fire pit. There is also an adorable tire swing anchored to an old oak tree that had all of us feeling nostalgic.
The front deck was equipped with a large plush couch under the shade of a sweeping oak tree, a dining table that seats eight, and a brand new grill. At night, we’d turn on the string lights that entwined the branches and enjoy the sounds of the countryside with a glass of wine. This little corner of the property is where we always gravitated to.
Concierge
Being familiar with the area, we didn’t need to utilise concierge during our stay, but I was impressed nonetheless by the options available through them.
As part of their concierge services, Inspirato offers a service called Luggage Free. They’ll pick up your luggage before you leave and have it shipped and waiting for you at your residence when you arrive. This is particularly good for anyone traveling with bulky sports gear like golf clubs, or those who may need special gear for traveling with kids.
Inspirato’s destination concierge will also help you in planning and making reservations for dining and tastings. They have a few special partnerships at wineries throughout Napa and Sonoma that allow for tailored experiences and complimentary tastings.
The Rooms at The Piccolo
The rooms at The Piccolo are spacious and comfortable. The property consists of three bedrooms in total. The ground floor has a queen bedroom and a double twin, both of which share a connected en-suite bathroom with each other. The primary bedroom is located upstairs with a king bed and has very pretty views of the property’s oak trees.
Overall
The Piccolo is a stunning property that works well as a place to reconnect with a group of family or friends. The bones of the property combined with Inspirato’s top-notch service make this an easy place to recommend.
It’s best suited for larger groups who want to spend as much time relaxing together at home as out exploring, and for foodies who enjoy cooking at home. I would’t hesitate to book here again – the next time I have friends coming to town, The Piccolo will absolutely be at the top of my mind.
