Hotel Edit: The Six Best Luxury Stays in Bangkok

Bangkok is a city that is no stranger to luxury, and with a city this big there’s quite literally something perfect for every taste and need. After returning dozens of times to visit my family there, I’ve been able to sample some of the city’s best accommodations. Here’s the shortlist of my favourites in the city.

Kimpton Maa-Lai

Setting / Sindhorn’s Urban Oasis

Style / Organic Modern

Best For / Young Tastemakers

A Highlight / The endless parade of tailored fashion and pampered pets through the lobby

TOP TIPS

  • The concierge here have their fingers on the pulse – let them help you make reservations at the trending spots around town
  • The fitness facilities here are phenomenal, so be sure to bring your gym kit

Capella Bangkok

Setting / River Front

Style / Low Key Luxe

Best For / A Restful Reset

A Highlight / Watching the sunrise over the Chao Phraya with breakfast in bed.

Top Tips

  • Let the in house ‘Capella Culturists’ help you plan a range of bespoke cultural activities around the city
  • Every room features panoramic river views, but the Verandah Suite is my personal favourite
  • Don’t overlook the dining experiences here – all of their herbs and vegetables are grown in an organic garden own-site

The Sukhothai

Setting /  Financial District Retreat

Style / Avant Garde Glam

Best For / Business Travel

A Highlight / Lounging on the cabana bed all day on our oversized private balcony

TOP TIPS

  • Stop back in the club level to freshen up with complementary afternoon tea during the heat of the day
  • Be sure not to miss the honey bar at breakfast – this was such a treat!
  • Check out the chocolate buffet available for guests on weekends

Mandarin Oriental

Setting / Riverside

Style / Old School Opulence

Best For / Mature Travelers

A Highlight / Listening to early morning birdsong as you stroll through the gardens.

TOP TIPS

  • Afternoon tea at the infamous Authors Lounge is a must if you stay here
  • The hotel is home to the oldest, and arguably best, cooking school in the city
  • Rooms here are split between the River Wing and Garden Wing – the latter is much prettier!

Sindhorn Kempinski

Setting / Leafy Langsuan

Style / Evergreen Modern

Best For / Young Families

A Highlight / Swimming in the cantilevered infinity pool looking over Lumphini Park

TOP TIPS

  • The rooms here are big – even the lowest category of rooms here offer more space than other luxury hotels
  • Complimentary hotel shuttles are available for guests to nearby attractions and public transit hubs
  • A kids club at the Siam Kempinski sister property is available for families with advance reservations

Sala Rattanakosin

Setting /  Heart of the Royal Quarter

Style / Zen Minimalism

Best For / First Time Visitors

A Highlight / Watching Wat Arun twinkle from just across the river at night.

TOP TIPS

  • Book early, as this little hotel only has fifteen rooms!
  • If it’s available, the River View Suite is well worth the upgrade
