One of the things that I liked most about Khao Yai is that it’s relatively untouched still by commercial tourism. You’re not likely to see any big-name chains—or even regional ones—unless you’re really looking. Instead, a patchwork of independent businesses weaves through the palm trees and winding mountain roads. The best of those, I think, is The Series Resort.
I spent a long weekend here in early January, and The Series Resort is the goldilocks of the region to me. It was the closest to Bangkok of all the hotels I considered, and just minutes to the national park entrance, vineyards, and a handful of charming cafes. The property has been lovingly redesigned by the family in recent years, but still retains the intimacy and care of a bed and breakfast. For what we recieved, the price seemed shockingly affordable considering the value of our stay.
So, if you’re considering using The Series Resort as your base camp while visiting Khao Yai, here’s my full experience.
Frequently Asked Questions about The Series Resort Khao Yai

When Did The Hotel Open?
The Series Hotel has been around for decades, but received a redesign and renovation by the daughter in September 2020.
Is The Series Part Of A Hotel Group?
Nope! This is a second-generation family-run business—one of the things that most attracted us to staying here.
Is The Hotel Dog Friendly?
The hotel doesn’t have a defined pet policy, but dogs may be allowed with prior approval. Call ahead and speak to the staff to confirm before bringing your pet.
Is The Hotel Family Friendly?
Yes. We saw several families during our stay, and the staff seemed great with toddlers and young children.
Is The Hotel Accessible?
There were more accessibility considerations here than at many hotels I’ve seen in Thailand, but it’s not fully accessible. For example, the main lobby and restaurant can be accessed via a side ramp, though it’s slightly out of the way. Many of the garden features also use uneven pavers, which may pose challenges.
In Three Words…
serene, tranquil, verdant
Location of The Series Resort Khao Yai

The hotel is located in a town called Phaya Yen in the Pak Chong District. From Bangkok, it was about a two hour drive — we planned our departure to avoid rush hour traffic.
The Series is centrally located for exploring the region and sits about 20 minutes from most of the activities we wanted to do. That said, this part of Thailand isn’t very walkable, and there was nowhere we could have easily walked to from the resort. This was true of most of the accommodation options we researched. I recommend bringing a motorbike or hiring transportation for the day.
Amenities at The Series Resort Khao Yai
Bars & Restaurants
The restaurant, just adjacent to the main lobby, offers stunning views of the pool, gardens, and lush green mountains. It’s open to the public, and the best tables often get booked in advance—especially in the evenings.
The food we ordered was fresh and generous, with each dish presented with style and care. Staff spoke limited English, so I’d suggest sticking to the menu unless you can communicate your preferences in Thai.

Spa & Fitness
There’s a small fitness center on site with basic weights and cardio equipment. We got our exercise hiking outdoors, but it looked clean and sufficient for guests wanting to use it.
The infinity pool is a standout feature of the resort, with breezy linen-draped loungers surrounded by palm trees and dramatic views of the verdant hills.

Concierge
The hospitality at The Series rivaled—and in some ways exceeded—what we’ve experienced at five-star resorts. Upon check-in, we were served freshly brewed local tea. Our bags were promptly delivered to our room while we were escorted to the restaurant for a complimentary afternoon tea.
Every evening after turndown service, we’d return to a handwritten note and a small treat on our bed. The staff helped arrange transportation, anticipated our needs, and made our stay feel deeply personal. As one last thoughtful touch, we were given a complimentary coffee and a small bag of baked goods at checkout for the ride home.
While most staff spoke limited English, they were warm, patient, and generous in communicating. I even picked up a few new Thai phrases thanks to their help.

The Rooms At The Series Resort Khao Yai
All the accommodations at The Series are of a similar room type, with small differences in view depending on floor and location. Our ground-floor room offered more privacy thanks to dense greenery. The upper-floor rooms have lovely mountain views but are more visible to guests relaxing poolside.
The rooms themselves were thoughtfully designed: breezy canopy-style beds, oversized sunken tubs, and private balconies with suspended loungers.

Overall
I absolutely loved my time at The Series Resort and would wholeheartedly recommend staying here if you’re planning to visit Khao Yai. We actually recommended this to my own Bangkok-based family shortly after returning to the city, and they had a similarly wonderful stay.
If you’re putting together your own visit, I also wrote a full Khao Yai guide with all my favorite stops—think vineyards, roadside snack hauls, and a few places that genuinely surprised me. I
I also booked a guided day trip into the national park to learn more about the elephants and local ecology. It was one of the most grounding, memorable things I did that weekend. If you’re even a little curious, I really recommend making time for it.
