At the end of every year I set a dream list of destinations for the next. My typical list is pretty ambitious, and its okay if I don’t cover half of it. My list this year also reflects way more domestic locations than usual. With ever changing entry requirements and travel restrictions, its more challenging (and expensive) than ever to plan an international trip, so I’m taking the opportunity to look forward to places in my own backyard that I’ve taken for granted in the past.
Cambodia
I became really fascinated with Cambodia’s rich history this year, and would love to be able to spend time visiting Angkor Wat while tourism is still a bit lower than usual.
Maine
I have a good friend from Maine that I’ve been meaning to visit for ages. Once the snow clears up, I’d love to spend some time along the coast eating the best seafood imaginable.
Key West
For as much time as I’ve spent in South Florida this past year, I have yet to make it down to the keys. I’d love to take a road trip this year from Miami, perhaps stopping at Key Largo along the way.
Alaska
Ever since last summer, it’s been a total dream of mine to visit Alaska during the summer and hike along the national parks.
Colombia
I’ve wanted to visit Colombia ever since I took Spanish lessons as a kid. I’m excited to explore the vibrant arts and food scene, as well as spend some time in the jungle.
Hawaii
This destination never appealed to me much before this year, but now I can’t wait to visit.
Arizona
I have an old friend from university who recently bought a home in Phoenix, and I can’t wait to go explore the beautiful national parks with her.
Valle de Guadalupe
Since learning about wine more during the pandemic, I’ve been dying to check out this up and coming region in Mexico’s Baja Coast.
Yosemite
I’m moving to San Francisco this year, and one of the things I’m most excited about is the proximity to so many natural wonders, especially Yosemite.
Edinburgh
More than anywhere else, I’m hoping to go back to Edinburgh this year. It’s a second home for me, and these past two years are the longest in my life I’ve been away. Fingers crossed it will be safe this summer for some version of Fringe!
